How are those New Years Resolutions working out for you? Did you make a massive to do list only to throw it in a draw and forget about it or are you well on your way to making your dreams a reality? The beginning of the year is such a great time to reflect and figure out what it is you really want in your life. Note I said want, not what you think you should have. B-i-g difference. I know, I am a previous “should” junky. I filled with my life doing all of the things I thought I “should” do – usually because I thought they would make be look cooler, be cooler, because that-is-what-everyone-else-is-doing, because, because because because.
When I stopped doing and started asking myself “what do I really want??” it was like the world came to a stand still. I had never really asked myself that before. I was so busy climbing corporate ladders, filling my social calendar every waking moment and in my spare time being a dedicated yogi, runner, detoxer, trying to be spiritual, reading more, blah blah blah (there was a lot of more going on) I was too busy, and too caught up in living the life that other people wanted that I never made time for me.
So I stopped. I asked myself if I only had 2 years left in my life, how would I spend my time? I connected into what it was that I wanted in my life, what made my heart soar, not what came from expectations and “shoulds” and society norms.
Dreaming big is hard. Sounds weird right? It is easy to map out all of the things you think you want based on what our society, our parents, our peers expect from us. But to really and truly connect into what is in your heart, what it is that make you feel alive is a completely different story. This requires checking in with yourself, asking yourself some tough questions and more importantly preparing yourself for some tough answers.
Now is the time to take the bull by the horns and map out what you want in 2013 – you can read more here about this process of dreaming big. If you are not sure where to begin, I can highly recommend using a vision board. For you creative types this a great way to use your artistic talent but even for you non-creative types, it can be a fun way of putting some energy into creating the life you dream of.
Either way, the beginning of the year is a great way to start with a clean slate and really set your intentions for the coming year. If you need some help, let me know!
